Jennifer Lopez and Lady Gaga Deliver Heartfelt Performances at Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ Inauguration
Being that Kamala Harris is the first woman to become Vice-President, Jennifer Lopez and Lady Gaga taking the stage means that much more. There’s no doubt that witnessing Harris get sworn in was an empowering moment for women everywhere but seeing Lopez and Gaga give their all during their tributes to America also was a momentous occasion that made tears stream down my face.
Both Jennifer Lopez and Lady Gaga have previously performed at the Super Bowl and Lopez having headlined it this past year, makes her the first person to ever perform at the Super Bowl, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in Times Square, and the Presidential inauguration all within the span of one year!
Leading up to Lopez’s performance, she spent the previous day preparing and sharing a few moments with members of the National Guard. She shared a video and the following message to her followers on Instagram “What an honor to spend a few moments with these brave men and women. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. I honor you today and everyday. ?? Tomorrow I sing for you and all Americans #inauguration2021.”
Jennifer Lopez poured her heart out on the West Front of the Capitol Building during her rendition of “This Land is Your Land” and “America the Beautiful.” Lopez also continues to serve as a voice for all Latinxs, uniting Latin-Americans and giving them something to be proud of by reciting two lines of the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish.
Following the recent attack on the Capitol Building, Gaga addressed an issue that has had us all concerned. Yesterday, Gaga said via Instagram “I pray tomorrow will be a day of peace for all Americans. A day for love, not hatred. A day for acceptance not fear. A day for dreaming of our future joy as a country. A dream that is non-violent, a dream that provides safety for our souls. Love, from the Capitol ??”
Lady Gaga had the immense honor of performing “The Star-Spangled Banner” which she delivered a soulful rendition of. After her performance, Gaga can be seen addressing President Biden, Vice-President Harris, former President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama. It seems as though she was expressing her gratitude as she walked away from an incredible performance.
