Maluma & CNCO Make Their Mark on the MTV VMA Stage and Take Home First Moon Man
I had the enormous pleasure of being present during Maluma & CNCO’s performances on the MTV VMAs stage (August 3oth) and it was an incredible experience! The performances took place in Greenpoint, Brooklyn where the stage had the New York City skyline directly behind it.
First off, MTV and the Video Music Awards did such an amazing job at making sure that the event was safe for all cast, crew, and audience members! It was a VIP drive-in concert experience where the audience was limited and all cars maintained 6 feet apart. Audience members were able to sit on top of their cars and enjoy the concert from the front row!
Colombian superstar, Maluma took to the VMA stage to deliver an explosive performance (literally explosive, fireworks went off!) of “Hawái” off of his brand new album “Papi Juancho.” This was his first time performing anything off of his latest album live and in front of an audience and he absolutely killed it! He started his performance on a blue motorcycle while he himself was sporting a fashionable bright yellow Balmain suit with his dancers matching him in yellow leotards, neon fanny packs, and masks! You can tell that Maluma was having fun while on that stage as was the audience who simply could not stop cheering.
After killing it on stage, Maluma was presented with his very first moon man which he won in the category “Best Latin” for his song “Qué Pena” with J Balvin. He could not be any more happy to have won his very first moon man and he dedicated it to all of his fans and of course J Balvin!
Up next on the stage was our favorite boy band, CNCO! Last year, they gave us an incredible performance of “De Cero” straight from the VMAs red carpet and this year we were lucky enough to have them debut their brand new single “Beso” during an intimate performance with their biggest fans! And lucky for me, I was amongst those fans and got to witness their amazing choreography up close and as always I was blown away! They started their performance in and even on top of some very fancy cars that were surrounding the stage. The song as well as the performance starts off slow before the melody picks up and they have the entire crowd dancing right along with them. They end with a bang, all-dancing on top of the fancy cars as fireworks light up the New York City sky!
As if it couldn’t get any better, CNCO was nominated in three categories, “Best Quarantine Performance,” “Best Choreography,” and “Best Group.” I’m so happy to say that los chicos de CNCO – Richard Camacho, Christopher Vélez, Zabdiel De Jesús, Erick Brian Colón, and Joel Pimentel won their first moon man in the category of “Best Quarantine Performance” and having witnessed the excitement in all of them when they were presented with the award was so special! The boys were literally jumping with excitement and playfully arguing over who gets to take the ionic moon man home! They are so deserving of this award and couldn’t have possibly been any happier to receive it!
