Sara Ontaneda Dives into Nostalgic Sounds with New Album “Experimento”

by Natasha Melina

Sara Ontaneda is the Ecuadorian singer-songwriter who is taking us back in time with her latest album “Experimento.” The album’s sound was inspired by previous decades and is composed of 7 songs in both Spanish and English.

Growing up bilingual, Ontaneda embraces both her Ecuadorian and American roots not only in this album but in her daily life. Discovering her passion for music at a young age, she began playing piano at the age of 7 and began singing shortly after at the age of 9 when she found herself a part of her elementary school choir. Following her dream, Ontaneda studied at Berklee College of Music and has been dedicated to making music that is uniquely her own.

When it comes to the writing process, ideas come naturally to the artist who enjoys composing music. The indie-pop singer says “the whole album is an experiment.” Each track explores different musical eras with the song “Gold” having a 60s and 70s vibe while the track “Experimento” is pure 80s which shines through in the music video that draws inspiration from the classic film Flashdance.

Sara Ontaneda has toured internationally and performed at the most popular music festivals such as SXSW, NAMM Show, Musikfest, LIFA Music Festival, among many others. With the recent release of “Experimento,” Ontaneda expresses her excitement for her new music to finally be out in the world and is looking forward to continuing to release more new music.
