Camino Ignites His Flame with EP “Burning Fire”

by Natasha Melina

Def Jam recording artist Camino brings us music with true passion and meaning in his 2021 EP “Burning Fire.” Hailing from Mississippi, the soulful artist draws inspiration from hometown artists including Elvis Presley, B.B. King, Rick Ross, and Muddy Waters. Much like these artists, Camino strives to make music that touches hearts and souls.

The five track EP was written by Camino at a time when he was grieving the loss of his Aunt Peggy who passed away from cancer. To help cope with the pain, he wrote “Burning Fire” from the perspective of his Uncle Wallace who was mourning the loss of his wife of over six decades. Together they had a life filled with lots of  love and memories, representative of what Camino thinks love and marriage should look like.

Music has always been the light that guided Camino throughout his youth as he struggled to avoid the darker side of Jackson, Mississippi. His father who served as a fireman for 35 years always loved singing to a baby Camino at any chance he had. When the Mississippi artist got to high school he divided his time between school, playing drums, mastering the guitar and bass, while also beginning to rap.

Surviving some of the lowest points in his life when he was homeless, broke, and following a dream, Camino got his big break in 2019 when he caught Def Jam’s eye with the songs he had under his belt at the time. It’s because of the rough times that Camino has been through that makes him strive to deliver the raw and soulful pop that he has become known for.

“I want my music to be an escape from reality. My songs have saved my life a bunch of times. There’s always hope. There’s always a chance, especially if you’re willing to put in the work. This music should give you the extra push and courage you need when you’re going through life. It’s authentic. You’ll feel like you know me.” – Camino
